THE HABITS THAT SHAPE OUR LIVES
Recently, I had some routine lab work done. Two results came back slightly elevated—not alarming, but enough to remind me that my body had been sending signals long before the paper confirmed it. Headaches, fatigue, and mental fog were my body’s quiet alarms, yet I ignored them at times, giving in to cravings and letting old habits slip in.
The truth is, I normally eat healthy and try to make wise choices, but once in a while I cave in. And sometimes, it feels like I don’t have it fully under control. In those moments, I’m reminded of how easy it is to satisfy temporary wants at the expense of long-term health. My body feels it, my mind feels it, and even my spirit feels it.
This experience reminded me of a truth we often overlook: the way we treat our bodies directly affects how we function in every area of life. Scripture tells us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). To nurture this temple is not only an act of self-discipline but also an act of reverence. The choices we make—what we eat, how we rest, how we handle stress—either strengthen or weaken the vessel through which God works.
I share this from a place of humility, not perfection. We will all stumble at times, but what matters is how quickly we realign. Small, intentional changes can restore balance and bring alignment between body, mind, and spirit. Choosing to honor the temple means choosing life, energy, and clarity—not just for ourselves, but for the greater purpose God has placed in us.
So, when the cravings come or the discipline feels heavy, pause and ask yourself: Is this choice honoring the temple God has entrusted to me? Your body will often whisper before it screams. Listen early, nurture it well, and let your habits reflect the holiness of the One who dwells within you.
